Alec Brown: Selected experience and achievements
At IDG, New Zealand's foremost technology and business publisher, Alec had overall responsibility for marketing IDG's extensive range of products and services including leading publications such as PC World and Unlimited magazine, events and websites. For some years Alec edited and published a newsletter, called IDG's Marketing Edge, for IDG's advertising clients.
Alec also organised a series of annual marketing seminars at which IDG's advertising clients were guests. Speakers included leading marketing professionals from New Zealand and overseas.
Alec's latter responsibilities extended to management of IDG's circulation department and the IDG Direct direct mail list rental and sales division.
At Wang, now known as Gen-I, Alec was responsible for all internal and external marketing communications. His achievements at Wang included conceiving and launching a regular customer newsletter and organising a range of customer and staff events.

Unlimited magazine.
Alec was one of the two founding members of the Unlimited publishing team (the other being the founding editor). As business manager (seconded from IDG) Alec was responsible for launching Unlimited. This included the developing and implementing initial presentations and promotions to agencies, advertising sales for the first issue, consumer marketing, subscriber development, PR and the launch event.
The results of this work speak for themselves.Unlimited has circulation on par with other leading business titles, leads the market in advertising sales, and is recognised as New Zealand's best business monthly, having won multiple business magazine of the year awards.
Computerworld Excellence Awards
Alec launched this highly successful event and originated every element of the awards - including the overall structure, brand identity, entry process and judging criteria, promotions, sponsorship sales and event management. After managing the event through its second year Alec successfully handed over the event to the IDG events team while retaining responsibility for marketing. This event is now established as a key event in the IT industry calendar.
Unlimited e-Business Guide on CD-Rom
Alec conceived, initiated and drove this project from beginning to end. The project required initial product concept development, sponsorship and advertising sales, content creation or sourcing, product design brief and management, through to distribution and marketing for direct sales. The project was a success and contributed significantly to IDG's bottom line profit that year.
